Siobhan is determined to be of help to Lucky.

Lisa tries to manipulate both Nikolas and Johnny.

Maya tries to avoid Ethan.

Maya fights her growing feelings for Ethan…she wants to keep things strictly business.

Sonny and Brenda go on their date; Carly is not pleased.

Guza explains in SOD that, “We will get to see her happy and we’ll get to see Sonny happy too”.

I do think Maya has feelings for Ethan so any girl that pops up in the mix would make her a little jealous.”

Johnny blackmails Lisa.
Johnny and Lisa grow closer as his relationship with Olivia falls apart.

Lucky is surprised when Siobhan infiltrates his secret mission.

Dante goes above and beyond as Brenda’s bodyguard.

After a few drinks, and a memory filled chat with Brenda, Dante bares his soul to someone…
Michael takes Dante’s keys after being called to Jake’s, and drives a chatty Dante home. Dante wakes up hungover, regretful of what he said the night before. The brothers bond as Michael attempts to make him a homemade hangover remedy.

A man approaches Abby in the street, treating her as if they were in a strip club. Michael doesn’t like seeing someone be touched when they do not want to be. Michael loses it when the guy denigrates Abby, saying things like she is paid to be touched–Michael beats him up and knocks him out.

Now that Abby has seen his rage, Michael fears she will never want to be with him again, but she assures him that is not the case. Also, since he is on probation, this could land him in hot water. He calls upon Jason for help.

Kristina angers Michael when she suggests that Abby is only after him for his money.

Michael comes close to screwing things up with Abby when he says the wrong thing.
He makes the mistake of offering to pay for her time! She walks out claiming he is treating her like a prostitute. Later in the week, he asks her out properly.

Michael likes Abby, but he is not sure how she feels about him. Chad explains in SOW, “He is still pretty new to all this, so he doesn’t want to rush things…Abby is someone he can relate to, because she has some things in her closet, and he can be more open with her [than he can be with his sister, for example]. Michael knows that he is not going to get along well with any of the girls in his high school. At 17 or 18, “They wouldn’t be able to handle someone with so much baggage… There are things he can say to Abby that he can’t say to anyone else.”

Passion rises after Sonny gives Brenda a special gift.

Laura (off screen) calls Luke and reveals that Edward contacted her.

Luke faces off with Edward about trying to meddle in his and Tracy’s plans.

Luke begins to get cold feet.

Robin busts Lisa stealing antibiotics for Johnny.

Dante makes a move to bring the Balkan out of hiding.
He sets a trap for him at the hospital. (This may involve Alexander’s body.)

Carly begs Jason for help in breaking up Sonny and Brenda.

Liz is jealous of Nikolas and Brook Lynn.

Carly becomes aware of Abby.

None but the brave will survive (spoilers)

They say when one door closes another door opens.  In the case of Sonny, the door that is opening is not a good one.  Sonny thought he did the right thing being honest with fair Claire and then he found out that  Claire was not as understanding  as he hoped.  After smiling bravely at Sonny she went right home, picked up the phone and launched a new attack on her weekend playmate.  Indeed hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Dante, in the meantime, is now re-launching an investigation of that horrible bombing story line that we all thought we had finally put to rest…but no, bring on the fumigators because it is now being rehashed on screen.    Can we escape the usual suspects lined up and rehashing the sins of Sonny to anyone who will actually listen a second time?  Negative!!! .  Since Guza  refuses to jail Sonny for anything wrong,  Uncle Bob  just beats him down by  repeating all his wrongs over and over and over, thereby not only punishing Sonny but sending his faithful fans screaming for mercy.  Let’s  have everyone bring up Claudia’s death and Michael’s jail time, Dante’s shooting, the car bombing that involved the fruit loop mobster  and Kristina, and of course we needed for Sonny to add the self defense shooting of Johnny since there was still room for more damning behavior by the root of all evil, Mob King Sonny Corinthos

While Sonny, foolish as it was to think Guza was going to let him be happy more than three days in a row, was enjoying some getting to know you time with Claire, brave and strong, loyal and trustworthy to the core Jason, just fresh from an unselfish jail stint to protect Michael, is off to Rome to protect Brenda.  We have been told by a parade of Jason worshippers that NOBODY can protect Brenda but the all knowing, all wise hit man and counselor of the needy.  Jason was able to immediately kill the only two guys who might have been able to tell him why they wanted to  harm Brenda.   Back to PC  now, snug as a bug in a rug live indestructible Jason, the ever increasingly cringe worthy love struck Spin person, and Brenda all breaking bread at Jason’s place.  After all according to Suzanne, ONLY Jason can get Brenda to listen and obey.  Tsk tsk, Second again, Sir Jax the protector of all females who favor Sonny over Jax or just favor Sonny period.   Or is it now third place  since Mighty Jase has eased past the insufferable righteous Jasper Jacks as number one PC protector.

Meanwhile all of the attached and unattached women in PC are ready to form a “run her out of town” posse to rid them of Brenda who they seem to feel is stealing the hearts of their men folk.  While this is going on, Brenda is busy visiting folks to explain that she is not able to get back with Sonny, or is she?   First no, then yes, then no.  This sends Robin , fully recovered from nearly dying in a well after being drugged by a crazed nut case, off visiting folks.  Sonny first and then Jax.  Jax of course is  in his usual self proclaimed protector mode.  Both he and  Brenda, have gotten past him dumping her  just before their wedding because he realized she loved Sonny.  That was then and this is now.    Having just had  yet another round of apology/make up sex with Carly assuring her that he cares not for Brenda but for Carly only, noble Jax remains focused as always on his Sonny hate which he passes off regularly as “protection against a dangerous killer.”  Someday, someone should tell him that Jerry, the international drug and arms dealer, also falls into that category…brother or not. After Jerry terrorized half the town, shot Robin, poisoned Nic,  blackmailed Emily, kidnapped Kristina and Michael and shot Jason and left him to die after twice trying to kill Sam, one would think,  Jax might want to rid his life of Jerry but it is far more important to get Sonny out of his life.

So, Brenda we find out knows Dante and they have a big secret they are keeping and the nasty mysterious Balkan is part of it.  What does he want with Brenda?  Now Lucky is out there hunting him down with a brand new Irish accent and possible girlfriend.  Carly is  raving and ranting, Sonny is once again in jeopardy with the law, Jason the almighty is braver than ever and Jax is planning to fight to the end for all  endangered women who show any interest in Sonny.  Where is this all heading?  A duel at sundown where two men draw their weapons from their holsters, Sonny a shiny gun complete with silencer, and Jax, a brand new iPhone with numbers programmed in it of VERY important people?  Guaranteed  “must set your VCR” material.

Pre-Guza, Sonny was  a mobster but fans were not reminded constantly that Brenda and Sonny should not be together, that it was all on bad Sonny because he was a danger to her. Fans were allowed to see them pull together at times and Sonny was not constantly put down by everyone. He had music business, friends and Sonny and Brenda WORKED as a root for couple. Guza is already constantly preaching to the viewers that Sonny is a selfish b*st*rd for wanting Brenda because he is this evil mobster. That is like telling someone ahead of time…hey this girl is too good for this guy and if he pursues her, he is a selfish unlikable creep.These are two mature adults who should be written and played as two people on even ground who are capable of discerning right from wrong and making a decision not colored by a parade of lecturers trying to paint half of the couple as an unworthy selfish jerk. This is exactly what Guza is doing instead of making them a root for couple…bad boy and good girl but whose love transcends their differences. We are not watching for morality lesson and viewers can decide if they want these two together.

And why is everyone getting in Sonny’s face about staying away from Brenda?  The only time Sonny has seen Brenda was when she visited Greystone to see him!!

Who knows how many twists and turns are in store for Sonny and Brenda.  Better question, will Sonny fans still care if Guza continues to draw this out and involve every male on the show on the premise of protecting Brenda if or WHEN Guza decides S&B can have a storyline?

Wherever it is going, one thing we know for sure, is that Guza is going to drag it out for weeks with a unhealthy dose of wash, spin and repeat.  None but the brave,  on screen and off, will survive,

Brenda is certain of Sonny’s innocence and puts on a full court press to convince Dante of that. Sonny walks in on her pleading his case to Dante and is touched by her loyalty. He sees her devotion as a sign that she still loves him and attempts to charm her yet again. She shoots him down though, telling him there is no chance for them.

Brenda turns to Jason as a shoulder to cry on but Sonny isn’t giving up so easily. Knowing she’s dealing with conflicted feelings about him he comforts her (that must be when he hugs her at GS) but then she breaks away from his embrace and demands he leave her alone. He agrees to give her space to think but he refuses to turn his back on what he knows is their genuine love. It asks if Brenda will eventually give in before it’s too late with Claire waiting in the wings.

Guza talks about their relationship and how it consumes them. How neither can quit each other. Then Maurice is quoted saying “Brenda acts like she doesn’t want Sonny, but he knows she does”

After Lucky and Siobhan sleep together, Lucky learns that The Balkan wants Ronan to eliminate Siobhan. Lucky manages to worm his way out of that and insists that she accompany him back to Port Charles.

Lucky meets with Jason to discuss using Brenda to lure in The Balkan. Unfortunately, one of The Balkan’s men snaps a pic of Ronan and Jason together.

Brenda overhears Sam’s plan to serve as bait for The Balkan.

Brenda has a nightmare.

Luke asks Carly for a favor.

Carly gets her feathers ruffled when she learns that Jax is re-modeling the Metro Court to build an apartment for Brenda.

In yet another display of unbridled selfishness, Carly pushes the boundaries of her friendship with Jason.
Carly plants a passionate kiss on Jason which Brenda observes. (Brenda later tells both Sam and Jax)

Laura Wright explains in TV Guide, “The blowup [between Carly and Brenda] happens when Carly is telling Jason that Brenda will go after Jax like a heat-seeking missile and Brenda overhears it. Carly tries to exit because she knows she can’t win with Brenda but Brenda stops her and says, ‘Maybe you wouldn’t be so insecure if you were loyal to your husband.’ [Laughs]. Then it gets brutal.”

Lisa becomes Patrick’s neighbor in Metro Court.

Robin develops a friendship of sorts with Theo Hoffman, a patient at GH, but there could be more to him than meets the eye. (musing- this actor would make be great for The Balkan, doncha think?)

Lisa tries to make Robin look like a negligent parent.

“Carly will eventually get the keys to the kingdom. She will wind up with the ammunition that can completely destroy Brenda in Port Charles.” Bob Guza, TV Guide.

More trouble for Patrick and Robin.

Jerry Jax first airs again on December 13th.

Luke and Tracy are forced into some alone time, and will have no choice but to “warm up to each other”.

Lulu becomes privy to at least part of the Dante/Brenda connection.

Lisa gets a threatening phone call.

Brenda comes across a familiar dress.

Craptastic Week in Review (Spoilers)

This past week seems like  it represents a gigantic Swiss cheese SO full of holes that there is little substance worth taking seriously.  No character seemed immune from the head scratching circumstances, puzzling situations and  dialog that ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous.  We can  best make our points with some head scratching  examples as follows:

• Michael’s father is a powerful mob boss so he must not be near him in case he catches a severe case of mobitis or he goes back to jail.  However, he can hang out with Jason, the hired killer who happens to be sleeping with an ex-con artist, anytime he wants.

• Michael is badly in need of  live sex education therefore turns to Jason for help.  If Michael thinks Jason is a good sex source with a little black book of hookers handy, he needs more than sex education.  Bad daddy would have been able to help him  as would good step daddy Jax, but no, this kid turns to a stoic robot for help.  The kid walks in on everyone having sex…except his dad because he can’t be near him, has he learned nothing yet?  No matter though,  Sam can step in and provide a teacher.

That’s nothing compared to the job they are doing on the Sonny character.  Did you REALLY think the truce could actually end one of the sourest most boring ugly scenarios, the Sonny Bombing and Johnny shooting caper featuring  punk mobster, Johnny, the heart sick  dedicated former Federal Prosecutor, Dante and Sonny.  NOOOOooooo!  Not this all over again,

Sonny and Claire actually looked like they might find happiness for two days, then Brenda reappears, and to his credit Sonny wants to be honest with both of them.  He liked Claire but loves Brenda.  For some reason unknown to most of us, Uncle Bob chose during  the serious S&B conversation to make fun of Sonny for his past “many island capers “  as though Sonny has been hauling lovers to the island frequently lately.   Alexis was only too happy to share her visit and mistake with Claire even though it happened EIGHTEEN YEARS ago. However, Alexis has a faulty memory because Sonny took her to Puerto Rico.  Sam was there and that happened  at least TEN years ago because the baby’s stem cells saved seven year old Kristina.  So instead of letting Sonny have one decent getaway with a woman he hoped to build a relationship with , lets throw acid tongued Diane in the mix and yuk it up at about lecherous  oversexed Sonny.  No matter that Nik, Jason, Johnny and Jax have had more sex than Sonny over  the past three years, MUST paint Sonny as the love them and leave them horn dog Guza loves to pull out of mothballs. And so WHAT if Sonny takes women to his Island. So did Aristotle Onassis and I don’t remember the press having this kind of field day about it.  It is a protected, private safe place for Sonny.  Why shouldn’t he take women there? Who’s business is it anyway? Jax is always carting his gal pals all over the globe to exotic lo-cals in his plane but nobody makes a peep about it.

By the way, the list of women Sonny did not take to the Island:

Brenda (they went to Puerto Rico on an L&B business trip along with Lois, Ned, Lee Lee , Miguel and assorted others), Alexis ( he took her to Puerto Rico on a business trip),  Reese,  Emily (they took a trip to Spain), Amanda, and Claudia. He did take Jordan to the Island but that was also a business trip (No dress, No casinos)  and they weren’t romantically involved. Em did go to the Island, but by herself to keep her safe during the Sonny/Jason war.

And I have to get this OFF my chest: Sonny was NEVER in a romantic relationship with Angel.  She wanted to, HE DIDN’T.

Then there is the “Sonny taking a woman to an Island and buys her a dress objectifies her” crowd. Sonny has had THREE women lawyers, set up both Brenda and Carly in businesses, and has been very supportive of the women he has relationships (Lily, Kate, Emily) with in their careers.  This does not sound to me like a man who objectifies women. However, watching women in cat fights like we had this week with Kate and Olivia is demeaning and I think objectifies them.  Watching Carly snarl all over any woman who dares take up with Sonny or Jason objectifies women. Nik taking Brook on business trips as a paid escort objectifies women.  Let’s hear some outrage over that PLEASE!

So take your pick in the multiple choice round. What exciting new story line for Sonny are you  looking forward to?

• Claire reopens not only her vendetta against Sonny, but the same old bomb case, taped conversations,  Johnny shooting and may threaten to drag Michael into it (which, of course, will be ALL SONNY’S FAULT.)

• Brenda asks Jax to help her stay away from Sonny, setting off the mad mouth he is married to,  asks Jason to help her stay away from Sonny, asks  Emma to help keep Sonny away,  maybe Kristina or Molly.  Just kidding, but what ever happened to taking responsibility for your own actions.  Oh that’s right, once you are connected to Sonny, everything bad is HIS fault.

• There is a town hall meeting of PC residents to go over all the mistakes Sonny recently made. Refreshments are served and all agree, whatever is wrong with the kids is still Sonny’s fault, Brenda should stay away because SONNY is bad for her, and Claire was yet another island victim who deserves to bring Sonny down and expose all his past sins so this group can rehash how bad he is for town residents and maybe a new judge.

Folks like Nik and Lucky and Scrubs are another whole ballgame for fans of theirs who are tearing their hair out.

Laura Wright explains in TV Guide, “The blowup happens when Carly is telling Jason that Brenda will go after Jax like a heat-seeking missile and Brenda overhears it. Carly tries to exit because she knows she can’t win with Brenda but Brenda stops her and says, ‘Maybe you wouldn’t be so insecure if you were loyal to your husband.’ [Laughs]. Then it gets brutal.”In yet another display of unbridled selfishness, Carly pushes the boundaries of her friendship with Jason.

Sam won’t have sex with Jason.

A Halloween event brings more trouble for Patrick and Robin.

Jerry Jax first airs again on December 13th.

Luke and Tracy are forced into some alone time, and will have no choice but to “warm up to each other”.

Lulu becomes privy to at least part of the Dante/Brenda connection.

Lisa gets a threatening phone call.

Brenda comes across a familiar dress.

Looks like Jason is finally going to put Sam first, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that she’ll let him (as previously mentioned in a much older spoiler further below). Lots of stuff on the horizon for both them and Lulu and Dante. Patrick and Robin fans still have plenty of story coming their way.

How many heroes does it take to screw in a lightbulb? (spoilers)

Guza has had a busy month or two establishing clearly who shall henceforth be considered the new action figure heroes and we now have three.  Of course Might Jase still leads the pack, having the most saves as always.  Michael goes to jail.  Enter Mighty Jase to run interference and try to protect him.  Franco resurfaces…free heroic Jason because only Might Jase can try to save the kidnapped child and capture the zany goofball killer, Franco.

But wait, alas, there are interlopers now treading on our mighty heroic action figure.  Enter the gentle, good cop Lucky who snatches the heroics from Mighty Jase, rescues the baby and is soon off to Ireland for Interpol to show off his  new Irish accent and fight The Balkan.   Wait though, unbelievable as it is, Mighty Jase must share heroics with yet another wise and righteous warrior, Dante.  Together he and the anointed one worked to capture Franco but you can’t win them all so they combined efforts again and found evidence to free Sonny.

Are these heroic saviors done yet?  Not even close.  Mighty Jase, out of the goodness of his heart, volunteered to go to the  rescue of Brenda, the damsel in distress, singlehandedly slay two bad guys, save her from a forced drug overdose and whisk her back to PC to  his place.  Good luck with that one Mighty Jase.

Meanwhile Dante and fair Lulu, fearing they might not be on every day,  rushed off to Ireland to rescue endangered Lucky from the grasp of The Balkan.  A gun battle ensues and the mighty heroes manage to slay the bad guys and escape.

Now, while  all the heroes are in action, Sonny having been freed is now on VERY  friendly terms with Claire who has given up her assignment so she can be with Sonny.   Now Sonny has really not had a relationship for almost three years, but Guza has let it be known that Sonny and Brenda still love each other but he thinks she is engaged.   Yes, he is using Claire to forget Brenda.  Enter chorus of Sonny haters shouting “manwhore” while whipping out fingers to count all the women Guza has conveniently had Carly and Diane mention so this ritual is  easier on those who enjoy the counting thing.  Some forget that starting way back with Alan, men on this show have had  numerous women because that’s what long term leads do on soaps.

Guza could not help annoying fans and haters alike by sending Sonny off  quite possibly to the same island he always sent him to so folks can bring it up and hate it.   Sonny supposedly woos, wines and dines Claire telling her he cares for her and then….he comes home to BRENDA.  Supposedly Sonny and Brenda discuss their feelings, Brenda wants some space but Sonny breaks it off with Claire.  Will she be angry and go after him or Brenda with a vengeance.  Will she get pregnant and experience a Lily-like departure.  Only Guza knows.

What we do hope for is some story for Sonny other than the parade of the kids hating on everything he does, lectures from Carly ,  any more encounters with Johnny, and the never ending obnoxious  verbal battles with blowhard Jax, who will take it upon himself to visit Sonny soon and order him to stay away from Brenda. Yawn.

The big question for Sonny fans is  whether Guza will write something good for Sonny and Brenda, restore some balance to the Sonny character whereby he can be a mobster and still have a life, and whether he can write stories that are not blatantly establishing heroics month after month for the same chosen few.  He has done  one thing right,  he ended the horrendous Johnny vs. Sonny feud.  Now can he bring in a Balkan villain we can enjoy, and write an umbrella story that gives quality time to more than a few chosen heroes?

Turns out Dante was once Brenda’s bodyguard. Does this mean they once slept together?
Maybe, maybe not. What we do know for sure is that whatever their past indiscretion, they both regret it and they won’t be happy to see each other again.

Its seems that Brenda and Dante may have stolen something from the Balkan.
Jerry Jax will pop in for a few episodes during sweeps and he will want to get his hands on it.
Jerry will look to Sam for assistance in retrieving said item.

He can take it–but should he HAVE to? (spoilers)

Many of us remember the first time we saw Sonny Corinthos on our screens. This darkly handsome man with the deep set dimples, the dark brooding eyes and the sexy smile walked into our living rooms playing a character written to be disliked. What happened next changed the whole idea of who and what Sonny was supposed to be and transformed the soap genre.

This man was able to find a way to make a deeply flawed mobster not only acceptable to many women viewers but a favorite . Maurice plays Sonny with options…you can love him or hate him but few ignore him…or so it seems by all the attention he constantly draws on-line and off. Over the years, Sonny/Maurice has had writing that most would find totally devastating and damaging to their character as well as to the popularity of the actor. Not Maurice! He has been on top for seventeen years as one of the leads on the show.

Sonny has weathered the following:

• shooting of his wife ACCIDENTALLY during childbirth
• having his kids kidnapped when they were young because of what he does

and in the last two years:

• he is responsible for his son being shot and in a coma,
• his son killing his step-mother and going to jail,
• almost blowing up his daughter in a car bombing,
• shooting a son he didn’t know about who happens to be a cop

….and guess what? Viewers still love this guy!!

In addition to his many fans that are off-liners, FB and Twitter are loaded with more fans than ever for Maurice/Sonny (in spite of

some who dominate on  message boards known to hate the character).  Sonny is doing better than ever, and his portrayer just seems to get better with age. Why? It was pointed out by co-stars that the reason is Maurice. In a recent interview, some of his co-stars commented that Maurice does his job well, is helpful to his peers always, is not near as serious off-screen as he seems on-screen, but most of all his personal charisma carries fans through whatever is written for Sonny. The reaction, as one surfs the net, to Maurice/Sonny is very telling.  Aside from those who hate the character period, there are many fans who don’t care what he does…they love Maurice and who he has put out there as the Sonny is what they care about and root for. Sonny is a bad guy but not all bad…that is what Maurice sells to the masses and what they love to watch IF they are fans. This has come to a shock  and met with consternation with bloggers and some in the soap media who incorrectly read the pulse of viewers or those who felt the need to push their own agendas.   Sonny’s misdeeds is also what haters love to hate and crow about (to no avail). It all works well for GH.

Guza seems to feel that Sonny must constantly be a tortured soul and fans seem to be begging for change. They want a mobster who can coexist realistically with his family and one who can have a layered, more open personality and a decent relationship with a woman. Brenda is back and she could be the answer. Will Guza allow this couple a second chance. Certainly they have a large fan base who would welcome another chance at happiness for them.

One thing is very clear…Maurice has given GH a character that continues to have huge audience appeal and personally, the man is a fan magnet who remains immensely popular. He has earned the recognition, air time and popularity he enjoys.

So I have to ask this question: Sonny/Maurice has proven he can take your ish Bob. But should he have to? Forever? Fans want better writing for Sonny NOW!

Spoilers

As Claire gets involved with Sonny, she tells him she has told her superiors about her conflict of interest and will never be able to prosecute him.

Jax’s warning that Claire is being used by Sonny falls on deaf ears. She turns the conversation around on Jax and brings up his personal vendetta against Sonny and the mistakes he has made along the way.

Sonny admits to Dante that he is only romancing Claire because he is on the rebound.

Robin arranges for Patrick to feign interest in Lisa.

Michael gets into a fight on the first day at school with Kiefer’s friend.  As his guardian, Dante is called in as the school considers expulsion.  Dante tries to get Michael to open up to him.

While Sonny tries to distract himself with Claire, Brenda is dolled up in a wedding gown for a photo-shoot, unable to keep her mind on the present.

Lulu apologizes to Dante for thinking he would break the law to protect Sonny.

Dante stumbles upon Spinelli’s research about The Balkan and reveals he is familiar with the crime lord.

The Balkan’s thugs drug Brenda.

Jax and Carly reunite as a family, but there’s a hitch.

Researching Brenda, Spin finds more than he expected.

Jason and Brenda return to Port Charles.

Together, Jax and Brenda wax nostalgic and reflect upon their past.  Brenda’s secret that she didn’t know she had…is that she knows “The Balkan”.  The problem is that she only knows him by another name.

Dante and Brenda have more in common than just Sonny–a previous crime and a cover-up.

Lulu is not pleased when Dante becomes more supportive of Sonny.

As both Sonny and Dante become involved with the threat of “The Balkan”, Dante will develop a friendship with Brenda. Needless to say, Lulu is not going to be happy about Brenda.

Sonny’s situation with Claire continues. For Sonny, it is mainly about keeping up appearances.  It would not be a smart move on his part to tick off the Federal Prosecutor just because Brenda has reappeared in town. Meanwhile, Sonny has some difficulty dealing with the fact that Brenda is staying with Jason. Although Sam is not thrilled with the arrangement either, Brenda actually encourages the relationship between Jason and Sam.

Lulu’s curiosity is aroused by a box Dante seems to be secretive about.

Week of September 27th

9/28 Carly warns Jason that allowing Brenda to live in his penthouse could jeopardize his relationship with Sam.
Lulu is snatched by The Balkan’s men.

9/29 Brenda tells Sonny that due to her conflicting feelings for him, it would be better if he kept some distance.

10/1 With Spinelli’s help, Patrick arrives to find Robin suffering from hypothermia.

Stone (Michael Sutton!!!) will appear to Robin  at a time when she’s in great peril and in danger of giving up. Stone’s going to have to give her the will to carry on. (Sept. 28th) .  The duo will also talk about their past together, and bring closure to what happened to them years ago.”

Dear Bob: Sonny and Brenda still got it (magic), so let them flaunt it (spoilers)

What a nice surprise…or maybe not because most of us who loved Sonny and Brenda the first time around knew that they would still have that special chemistry, and guess what…they proved us right. Maurice and Vanessa still have it and Sonny and Brenda are as connected as ever. This is a couple who can step on screen and say more by saying nothing…their facial expressions and body language put us in the moment without hearing a word from either of them. We could have gotten the standard Guza rush” where we skip any kind of buildup and simply reunite the super couple with no back story for either and no slow restructuring. Fortunately we lucked out. Uncle Bob decided to do something right, and while many are impatient and want sudden reunited magic, he has chosen to realistically throw in buildup angst and work in side stories for them along the way.   He tossed in the big tease to allow them to prove that they are still a hot couple capable of sending off sparks and rekindling that old chemistry that was so exciting “back in the day”.

Guza will now incorporate Jason into the picture , no doubt to provide angst for JaSam which translates to them doing something to keep folks awake during their scenes, and then Brenda will no doubt be tossed into the pit of fire known as CarJax with Carly providing the fire and Jax providing the hot air that the old reliable windbag serves up to all of Sonny’s women. We all know the drill, “Sonny is evil, he needs to be in jail, he will hurt you, etc.”

We hear that Brenda will move in with Jason after he rescues her and returns her safely to PC, and will have roomies like Sam and Spin. Oh gosh, will they have to flip a coin for the pink room now? We hear Spin will idolize the new beauty…if only it would make him tongue tied…unable to speak. All would be at least somewhat indebted to Brenda for that favor. Sonny, meanwhile will return home to his family, thinking that Brenda is engaged to Murphy who is a less windy version of Jax unless he turns out to be a bad guy. He will then at least be a boring bad guy. Sonny comes back to GH’s latest version of The Three Stooges working together, Spin, Jason and Dante. This fun bunch is working to find evidence to free him when not exchanging glares and stares. It is rumored that they will find evidence (Surprise!!!) that Johnny, liar number one, indeed did have a gun, Ronny may very well be exposed as the gun hider and liar number two, thereby freeing Sonny. In the wings, we have the fair maiden and sometime Sonny hater, Claire, waiting to resume warm fuzzy feelings. Sonny still longs for Brenda but thinks he has lost her. When all you have had in the way of sex was Gothic scary Claudia and “I want our son away from you” Carly, Claire is looking better to Sonny as least as a pinch hitter until the A team arrives and accepts him. This however will be angst for Sonny and Brenda who also comes with a BIG secret that we will know when Guza thinks one up.

The evil Balkan will be the new enemy and hopefully Wily Coyote and his sidekick, Ethan, will decide to move on to piano playing and karaoke at Jakes. So, in summary, we have learned this week that Sonny and Brenda SHOULD definitely be the reunited couple to pull for because , with some decent writing, they can once again ignite our screens, give us back a Sonny we loved and something FINALLY for Sonny and Brenda fans to look forward to.

We hope Guza hears the fans calling for a rootable couple that will last awhile. If we hide his hatchet and yell loud enough, he may hear us. That by no means assures us that he will listen!!!!

GH: Uncle Bob’s (Guza) “dodge-in” (warning: spoilers)

Every time a magazine comes out lately we get yet another version of all the exciting things Uncle Bob promises us and how Port Charles residents will never be the same.  And then, months later, guess what!!!  There they are all the same,  Jason saving and staring, Sam whispering words of praise to her robotic lover (we take their word for it since we never see it on screen), Carly sneering, screaming and plotting  with one small change…she is getting LOUDER, Kristina hating her daddy and whining and moping about how evil he is,  and Sonny the root of all evil, written in a manner to allow at least four people a week to remind us of Sonny’s arrogance, mistakes, bad choices, and the  self centered evil behavior that Uncle Bob never wants us to forget… and on and on  it goes….Johnny, the misunderstood mixed up pretend “victim” mobster and his faithful companions, Ethan and Momma/lover Olivia,  Dante in  limbo hating his dad, almost liking his dad, between rounds of making love to Lulu.  Robin and Patrick who have a child  that they wish they could enjoy for a few  more months between post partum  depression and an infidelity that draws a crazy one into her happy little home.

Enter Brenda.  Now Uncle Bob says it will be exciting and we get hopeful.  Uncle Bob blackens Sonny’s reputation even more by having us see him shoot liar Johnny in self defense, jump bail and  take a plane to Rome.  Good thing he asked because Bernie was really sending him to Colombia.  For whatever that was worth to any of us.  FINALLY, Sonny and Brenda reunite, Sonny saves her from thugs but is sent home to be with his loving children  some of whom only “love” him when they feel neglected by him.

Meanwhile,  we hear rumblings that Sonny believes Brenda is engaged and done with him and so he comes back and Claire, minus tape recorder we hope, finds her way into his bed.  Is THIS the thing that changes somebody forever?  Nah, probably not.   But wait,  the almighty anointed one hears of impending danger to Brenda and takes his stare over to Rome to frighten away Brenda’s enemies.  HERE must be the part that changes PC forever.  Sam does not like this and may have to speak up for an episode especially if Carly is in the same room screaming at Jason about Brenda.  If Sonny is smart, he is  back in a holding room at PCPD safely out of the danger zone.

Summing up, will Brenda be shared equally by Jason, Jax  (remember him?) or is she really going to be paired with Sonny.  Will Jax bring out the usual Sonny hating sermon, will Carly be jealous of Brenda and if so, will it be because of Jason, Jax or Sonny?  Or all three? Will anyone care?  Many of us are hopeful that SOMETHING  new comes of Vanessa’s return.  Oh and Uncle  Bob says Sonny will return to his original powerful self.  We know better than to trust him on that one because the minute that happens, every one of his kids will have some catastrophe cast upon them that is Sonny’s fault.  Been there and done that over and over.

What we DO know is that Uncle Bob’s promo’s are usually better than the finished product so it’s best not to get our hopes up too high.

So, let’s kick back and watch all the things that will change PC and its residents forever and we can compare them to all the other times when changes were promised and never delivered.

And today’s WTF moment: I don’t have a hearing problem so I know I’ve heard both Jax and Carly yammer on for months now about how they want Sonny out of their lives and/or put in jail and presumably dead if that option is on the table because he was too dangerous to be around his kids . Today we hear Jerx whine that Sonny left devastation in his wake when he jumped bail and Carly was fit to be tied because she wasn’t told of Sonny’s whereabouts.  Shouldn’t this make them HAPPY????

AND EXCUSE ME JAX but if the Corinthos kids are devastated by their Dad’s disappearance doesn’t that mean they’d be equally devastated by his being sent to prison or worse?  Honestly, Carly and Jerx are never happy when it comes to Sonny.  He does what they want by disappearing and they still trash him.

Media call out: in the latest SID, in the article about the Franco location shoot, the mighty Jase is referred to as a cop.  Let’s get this straight, Jason wanted Claudia dead, would love to knock off Dante, is a HIT MAN all of which which I believe make him a criminal.  There is some major disparity in that magazine over how they are constantly calling out Sonny on his mobster-ness and how they view his hit man (mighty Jase).

Please Mr. Guza (spoiler warning)

Anyone who  has watched General Hospital over a period of years has to fear for the survivors because they not only have their history changed regularly, they are victims of  Bob Guza’s  current and ever changing whims and they are  always subject to sudden and unexpected disaster.

Right now  though,  some are  already complaining about the attention Sonny and Brenda are getting in the media, on line and soon to be, on screen.  Such complaints, however, fall on deaf ears to the many Sonny and Brenda fans who have waited l3 years or so for THEIR couple to re-emerge.  Cycles come and go and it has been a long drought so it is now a perfect time to reunite this popular couple and for their fans to bask in the sunshine, before the sudden and disastrous Guza storm rolls in and blows them to pieces like usual.  Will it happen?  At least temporarily down the line. it is what habitual betters would classify as a “sure bet.”

Some suggestions for Mr. Guza.  If he has watched the Sunday Sonny and Brenda Marathon, what would jump out at him immediately is the charismatic chemistry, natural and appealing, of both performers.  Please,  Mr. Guza, can you take note of the charming, personal charisma that Maurice Benard possesses and write it back into the Sonny character.  Old flashbacks show a Sonny who was far more layered and entertaining because he was in a business that allowed him to branch out and be a whole person not a dour, heavily dark one dimensional criminal 99% of the time.  The Stone story allowed Sonny to be not only a very humane character but one capable of great love for the dying Aids victim.  His love for Brenda allowed him to shake the isolation he is now written in and give of himself in ways he has not been written to do  since their breakup.

Sonny and Carly marked the beginning of a far more isolated self involved Sonny, dealing with a dysfunctional co-dependent meddler whose worship for Jason clouded their relationship and Sonny became a totally different character.    Guza has a chance to right that wrong and bring back the Sonny who wears his heart on his sleeve, whose sense of humor is more frequently used, and whose deep love for Brenda can conquer the dysfunctional image created over the past ten years during  which Guza saw fit to use Sonny’s mob ties to create nothing but disasters for all around him.  That needs to stop.

Stop hiding behind the mob and using it to continuously punish characters, Bob.  If Sonny is to remain a mobster, those who care for him must at least be written to be realistically able to cope with it instead of using it as an excuse for all their own wrong doings as well as Sonny‘s.  Sonny needs to be able to live a life separate from his business with Brenda and entertain us  once again.  Brenda will be a flexible character interacting with many characters.  Please Mr. Guza, open that cage, let the likable layered mobster, Sonny Corinthos OUT once and for all and let him do the same…let him be involved in something just once that brings out all his GOOD qualities while remaining the tough guy we know.

Making Sonny more interesting and balanced,  more charismatic and flexible, because of an actor who can do this simply by being himself, is a necessity now that Vanessa is back and a pairing seems inevitable.  We know it can be done.  We have seen it in the past.  Sonny fans have loved it and are begging for the Sonny we once knew and loved to re-emerge now that Sonny and Brenda seem to be reunited.   We know the actors can bring it to the table…can you bring it Mr. Guza?

Sonny and Brenda: is the third time the charm? and some other stuff (spoilers)

First let’s look at the “UN” writing for Sonny.  Uneven, unbelievable at times and definitely uninteresting at others.  This would pertain to the “ugly”  category, the continued insertion of Johnny Bravo, self-proclaimed champion of poor misunderstood Claudia, but really also a thrill seeking blowhard with a death wish.  This guy as obviously seen on camera, continues to antagonize Sonny, using whomever he can such as annoying characters like Kristina and Carly to further his goal…originally to destroy Sonny and soon to try to kill him.

Watching John Boy constantly bragging about  destroying Sonny, taking an annoying offensive action against him, only to whine like a six-year-old to all in listening distance when  the mob boss retaliates, is  unbelievably annoying and tedious.  Guza’s heavy handed attempt to portray Johnny as a victim insults intelligent viewers who see a green kid playing mobster constantly on offense yet Guza continues to TRY and convince viewers that Sonny is the bad  guy because he is doing what any mob boss would and should do, he is  retaliating.  This needs to end soon.   Guza needs to find a way to reel Johnny in, put him with his own age group, and get Sonny a real enemy….or get him out of the mob.

Secondly, we come to  “the bad” writing.  Maurice and Dahlia have a wonderful give and take easy  chemistry and they have a knack for pulling off straight-faced one line deliveries that entertain.  However, the writing  is awful.   The “playing each other” is fun only because the actors make it so but it is a real stretch  regarding the prosecutor wanting the mob boss’s child for many obvious reasons.  Claire, if written more realistically, could be good angst as a third part in the on coming Sonny and Brenda relationship.  Guza needs to decide where Sonny and Claire are really going and end the cat and mouse/baby nonsense.  Make them a possible believable pairing or end them.

Saving the best for last, we look at “the good” and for many that is the return of Brenda into Sonny’s life.  We need only to view clips of  Sonny and Brenda from the past to see that they had a sizzling on-screen presence filled with passion, romance and humor.  Of course much  of their success can be credited to good writers who allowed this couple to connect so completely, but Maurice and Vanessa not only  have great physical chemistry , they turned Sonny and Brenda into a totally  “root for” couple as they skillfully allowed them to grow and nurture complimenting each other beautifully.

Many fans seem very excited at the thought of reuniting Sonny and Brenda.  Maurice and Vanessa are accomplished actors who should  have no trouble recreating the magic . The frightening very real challenge is whether Guza will allow the kind of writing these two have gotten in the past and need in the present to reconnect the way audiences want them to connect. Time will tell, but Sonny and Brenda  have always been about  their deep love for each other.  “Deep love” and Guza do not mix.  He destroys couples and tarnishes love and romance for everyone.  Can he master that flaw and bring some romance and love back on the show WITHOUT taking a hatchet to it immediately?

S&Believers have been waiting THIRTEEN years for their couple.  They are a  focused, determined, resilient and long lasting bunch (just the possibility of their couple reuniting has brought them flocking back to GH).   They’ve had to live through TWO J&B stints where S&B were trashed and Sonny’s love interests (some of whom have been  haled as Sonny’s greatest love and/or Sonny’s first love thus shunting Brenda aside as the holder of these titles).  Now Sonny is technically free.  He’s not married or in a serious relationship.  Jax rejected Brenda at the altar eight years ago because he realized Brenda would always love Sonny more. He’s also still married to Carly and they have a daughter.   Brenda’s return this time yields the best opportunity so far for S&B to reunite as a couple. Spoilers have hinted that both Sonny and Brenda are  finally acknowledging their importance to one another.  The S&B fans finally have reason to hope. Isn’t it time to give them their couple?

Time will tell but for now, can Sonny fans finally hope for something positive in this man’s life that Guza will NOT destroy?  One can only hope!

Time for change BEFORE Brenda arrives (warning spoilers)

For three months Sonny was written in the worst possible light.   One by one he was alienated from all his children or removed at  best from their lives voluntarily or through court order.  Having Sonny be held responsible for Michael killing Claudia and going to jail,  giving Morgan up to Jax for adoption, and shooting a son he didn’t know was not enough for Guza.  He had to pile on the most ridiculous story line for Sonny in ages, a car bomb that almost killed his daughter.  That was STILL explainable to a point through the mob retaliation angle but then Guza had Sonny lie to those he loves.  He lied to his daughter and that is NOT in character for the Sonny we all know and love.  Maurice saw it immediately,  Sonny fans, appalled by the horrid plot point writing at Sonny’s expense, bailed for the first time in ages and refused to support such ridiculous writing.

Guza temporarily allowed some softer scenes with Sonny, Alexis and Kristina and fans were lulled into a false security thinking just maybe he would end the nonsense and allow some healing.  Now we hear that suddenly all that is gone, Kristina hates her dad more than ever and Sonny feels he must kick back and break from his kids since according to Guza, Sonny has done them all TERRIBLE HARM.  Of course he has, Guza has written him  not to be mobster of the year but monster of the year.

Recently,  Johnny whined to Brook Lynn about bad bad evil Sonny and conveniently left out the fact that Sonny saved Claudia’s life TWICE, saved his (Johnny’s) ass from jail and was the only person who stuck up for Johnny’s sainted sis when he, Johnny, threatened to kill her over his precious “Liv”. Realistically,why should Sonny LIKE Johnny? The Zacharras have been nothing but thorns in Sonny’s side since they came to town.  Anthony Z did shoot Kate on Skate’s wedding day, Claudia and Johnny are responsible for Michael being shot, and all that was before Sonny married Claudia.

Now we hear that someone from Brenda’s past is hired as her bodyguard? Wanna make a bet that her new bodyguard is Jason? Possibly with an assist from Dante? This will just be an extension of the Franco storyline to keep Jase out of prison and front and center on our screens. Not a promising start at all to Brenda’s return IMHO!

Brenda coming back and this nightmare writing was in some way supposed to prepare the Sonny character for her arrival.  The destruction of a character over months is not going to suddenly be cured and forgiven when Brenda arrives.  Guza had better have some decent solid redemption for the Sonny character  so many of us want to see in a positive, LAYERED and most of all FAIR scenario.  Maurice has recognized the danger signals as have his fans.  Now it is Guza’s turn to realize that Maurice is right now  the ONLY reason Sonny fans are hanging in there.

At least the scenes with Claire are finally allowing Maurice to bring a lighter more likable side back to Sonny and it is Maurice, not Guza, who is drawing fans back to watching but if he insists on continuing to push character and fans to the limit, it will backfire big time.  By thinking that Sonny fans and fans in general will swallow any tripe and disgusting character assault because all will disappear when Brenda arrives, Guza could be in for a big surprise.  Maurice deserves better and let’s hope Sonny comes back to us soon the way we are used to seeing him.

Some consistency,  character growth and layering are in order and some respect for a character many of us love and want to see back on our screens…what is being written for him now is NOT even close.
